Weather is cold but the fishing is HOT!

Strong NE winds, super low tides, freezing air temperatures... where do the fish go? It's simple, to find warmth within the rivers and small creeks. The trick is getting to them and putting the right bait in front of their face. We know that the local springs provide 72 degree water year round so that's a good place to start. The shown snook was pulled out of the Homosassa Springs during the coldest day of the winter. We caught over a 100 snook this day along with Jack crevelle, mangrove snapper, redfish, lady fish and sheepshead. I wasn't able to get live shrimp since the shrimp boats couldn't get out the river due to the low tides so we settled with 1/32oz jigs with a root beer colored tail. Almost every cast was another catch. Just because the conditions aren't perfect, doesn't mean it's not going to be a good day of catching. Utilize one of our many spring fed rivers or the great hiking trails that lead to those deep pockets back in the woods. Use baits that aren't intimidating to these fish as they're going to be outside their normal environment and less likely to strike something their not familiar with. Fish on my friends and feel free to give us a call with any questions!
